Not all relationships start off in the most traditional manner – Hollywood couples are proof of that. Many famous duos got together while they were still in marriages or relationships with other people. In some cases, both people were involved with other partners.
Since the actual number of star-studded affairs is significant, let’s take a look at the top ten relationships that started out as affairs:
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles
Given Prince Charles’ royal status and the love for Princess Diana, it can be argued that Charles and Camilla’s affair was one of the most well-known examples. It is believed that the couple met in 1970, when they were both in rather high-profile relationships. Many state that the relationship began immediately.
And, it continued for the duration of the Charles’ marriage to Diana. In fact, it was one of the main reasons that the pair split. Despite the rocky beginning, Charles and Camilla married in 2005 and have been together ever since.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
The two hooked up on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith while both their star statuses were at an all-time high. Jolie was single at the time but the Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston. While the affair was never addressed, Pitt did admit to falling in love with Jolie during the filming of the movie.
The couple then went onto adopt and have several children and eventually tied the knot. Despite their long-lasting relationship, the couple did split up in 2016. The divorce was quite messy with there being arguments over child custody rights.
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa
Yes, it took even the Boss a few wrong turns before he found the love of his life. Interestingly enough, though, it turned out that she had been there in front of him all along. While married to Julianne Phillips, Springsteen realized that he was in love with his bandmate Patti Scialfa.
The couple had an affair for almost two years before Springsteen divorced Phillips. However, Scialfa and Springsteen seem as though they were meant to be. They have been married for over thirty years now!
Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes
Rimes and Cibrian were both married when they met on the set of a Lifetime movie. In fact, Cibrian had two kids with his wife at the time. Still, the pair decided that their chemistry could not be ignored. Just two years after they met, they were divorced and headed to the alter. The couple have been able to make it work, though, as they are still going strong a decade later.
Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash
They are one of the more iconic couples in history and practically legends in the music industry. So, it is easy to forget that Johnny was married when the two met. Cash later divorced his wife, marrying June in 1968. It appeared that this was a match made in heaven. They were married until June passed away in 2003.
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert
Shelton met Lambert on the set of CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert in 2005. The two hit it off immediately and had instant chemistry. The only issue was that Shelton was married at the time. This didn’t stop Lambert from pursuing Shelton even though country star said that she “knew better”.
The couple got married in 2011 and were the power duo of country music for four years. Unfortunately, they divorced in 2015. This was due to the fact that Shelton was discovered to be cheating on Lambert with yet another one of his co-stars Gwen Stefani!
Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe
Meg Ryan was involved in her very own high-profile marriage to Dennis Quaid when she met Russell Crowe. The couple met on the set of Proof of Life in 2000 and apparently the affair began shortly after that. Ryan and Quaid’s marriage had already been rocky at that point, with Quaid allegedly cheating on her multiple times throughout the marriage.
The affair was a catalyst for the marriage coming to an end, though, and it was finalized in 2001. While Ryan and Crowe dated for a short period after that, nothing really came of the relationship and the two parted ways.
Claire Danes and Billy Crudup
The Crudup and Danes relationship was especially scandalous. The two met on the set of Stage Beauty and began an affair. It wasn’t just that Crudup was with Mary Louise-Parker at the time that made this gossip fodder. No, it was the fact that Louise-Parker was pregnant at the time.
Crudup began officially dating Danes while Louise-Parker was seven months pregnant. The relationship continued for four years before the two finally called it quits.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s affair on the set of Cleopatra is almost as epic as the movie itself. They were both married at the time that they began their passionate and well-publicized affair. The couple went on to marry, with a highly documented relationship.
Their time together was punctuated by arguments, substance abuse, and other affairs. This led them to get divorced, get back together, and then break up once more.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Most people are so focused on how Depp and Heard’s relationship ended that they forgot about how it began. The two met on the set of the Rum Diary in 2009. At that point, they were both in long-term relationships with other people. Depp had children as well.
The two only officially got together in 2011 or 2012 when Depp split from his girlfriend. Some time after, the two were married although the nuptials were short-lived. They came to end when Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse, leading to a messy and bitter divorce.
As you can see, many Hollywood couples started off when they were still seeing other people. Some of these relationships were short-lived while others spanned decades. It just goes to show that there is no right way to meet someone.
